Indication/Uses: 

1. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure):

   • Helps to lower blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

2. Heart Failure:

   • Used to treat symptomatic heart failure, improving survival rates and reducing the need for hospitalization.

3. Left Ventricular Dysfunction:

Uses:

• Mechanism of Action:
  • Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This results in the dilation of blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and decreases the workload on the heart.

Dosage and Administration:

• The typical starting dose and adjustments are based on the condition being treated:
  • Hypertension: Starting dose is usually 5 mg once daily, which can be adjusted based on the patient's response, up to 40 mg per day in divided doses.
  • Heart Failure: Initial dose is generally 2.5 mg once daily, gradually increased to the target dose of 20 mg per day in divided doses.
  • Asymptomatic Left Ventricular Dysfunction: Initial dose is usually 2.5 mg twice daily, with a maintenance dose of 20 mg per day in divided doses.
  • Diabetic Nephropathy: Dosage similar to that used for hypertension, adjusted based on kidney function and blood pressure response.
