Certainly! Below is the requested information for Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) 10mg Film-Coated Tablet 100's:

Product Description:

Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) 10mg Film-Coated Tablet is a medication used primarily for the prevention and treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA), which works by blocking leukotrienes — chemicals that are released in the body during an allergic reaction or inflammatory process. These leukotrienes cause swelling, tightening of the airways, and increased mucus production. By blocking their action, Montelukast helps reduce inflammation, making breathing easier and controlling allergy symptoms.

Each tablet contains 10 mg of Montelukast Sodium and is available in a pack of 100 film-coated tablets.

Indications:

Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) is indicated for:

  1. Asthma:

    • To help control asthma symptoms and prevent asthma attacks in both adults and children.

    • It is used as a maintenance therapy to improve asthma control and reduce the need for rescue medication.

    • Can also be used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in individuals with asthma.

  2. Allergic Rhinitis:

    • To relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes caused by seasonal or perennial allergies.

Dosages:

The typical dosages for Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) are as follows:

  • For Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older):

    • Asthma: 10 mg once daily, usually taken in the evening.

    • Allergic Rhinitis: 10 mg once daily, typically in the evening.

    • Exercise-induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB): 10 mg at least 2 hours before exercise.

  • For Children (6 to 11 years old):

    • Asthma: 5 mg once daily, usually in the evening.

    • Allergic Rhinitis: 5 mg once daily, typically in the evening.

    • Exercise-induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB): 5 mg at least 2 hours before exercise.

  • For Children (2 to 5 years old):

    • Asthma: 4 mg once daily, usually in the evening (usually provided as chewable tablets or granules).

    • Allergic Rhinitis: 4 mg once daily, typically in the evening.

Note: Montelukast should be taken regularly, even if the patient feels well. It is not intended for the acute relief of asthma attacks, so a rescue inhaler should be used in emergencies.

Side Effects:

While most people tolerate Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) well, it can cause side effects. Some common and rare side effects include:

  1. Common side effects:

    • Headache

    • Abdominal pain

    • Diarrhea

    • Sore throat

    • Cough

    • Fatigue

  2. Serious side effects (less common):

    • Neuropsychiatric Effects: These may include mood changes, irritability, depression, anxiety, agitation, or even suicidal thoughts. If these occur, it's essential to consult a healthcare provider immediately.

    • Severe allergic reactions: Rare cases of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), which can cause difficulty breathing. If this occurs, immediate medical attention is required.

    • Liver Dysfunction: In rare cases, Montelukast may cause liver problems. Symptoms may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), dark urine, or unusual fatigue.

    • Churg-Strauss Syndrome: A rare condition involving inflammation of blood vessels, affecting the lungs, skin, and other organs.

  3. Other possible effects:

    • Dizziness

    • Sleep disturbances (such as insomnia or vivid dreams)

    • Skin rash or itching

Contraindications:

Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) is contraindicated in the following situations:

  1. Hypersensitivity: If you are allergic to Montelukast or any of its ingredients, you should not use this medication.

  2. Severe Liver Disease: Montelukast should be used cautiously or avoided in patients with severe liver dysfunction or hepatitis, as the liver is involved in metabolizing the drug.

  3. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: While Montelukast is classified as Category C (which means it should only be used if the potential benefits justify the risks), it is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. It is not known if Montelukast passes into breast milk, so it is important to consult your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Neuropsychiatric Effects: Patients (and caregivers) should monitor for any changes in mood, behavior, or mental health, including symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts. If these occur, the healthcare provider should be contacted immediately.

  • Acute Asthma Attacks: Montelukast is not intended for the acute treatment of asthma attacks. It should be used regularly for asthma control, and a fast-acting inhaler should be used during an acute episode.

  • Liver Function: Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease.

  • Allergic Reactions: Although rare, if you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing, you should stop the medication and seek emergency medical help.

Storage:

  • Store Montelukast Sodium (Leukorest) tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and direct light.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

Important Note: Montelukast should be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider, and regular follow-up appointments are recommended to monitor the patient's response to treatment. If you experience any side effects or new symptoms, consult your healthcare provider immediately.
