Here is the detailed information for Carvedilol 25mg (Cardoz) Tablet 84's:
Product Description:
Carvedilol (Cardoz 25mg) is a non-selective beta-blocker and alpha-1 blocker used for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart-related conditions. It works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in the heart and blood vessels, reducing heart rate and blood pressure. Additionally, it blocks alpha-1 receptors to cause vasodilation and further reduce blood pressure. This medication is commonly used to manage hypertension, heart failure, and chronic angina.
Each tablet of Cardoz 25mg contains 25mg of Carvedilol and the pack contains 84 tablets.
Indications:
Carvedilol (Cardoz 25mg) is prescribed for the following conditions:
-
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure):
-
Carvedilol helps lower blood pressure by reducing the workload on the heart and relaxing blood vessels.
-
-
Heart Failure (CHF - Chronic Heart Failure):
-
It is used to improve heart function and symptoms in patients with chronic heart failure, helping to prevent hospitalizations and improving survival.
-
-
Angina Pectoris (Chest Pain):
-
Carvedilol is used to manage chronic angina, by decreasing the oxygen demand of the heart.
-
-
Post-Myocardial Infarction (Post-Heart Attack):
-
It is used to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack by improving heart function and reducing the heart's workload.
-
Dosages:
The dosage of Carvedilol varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the medication.

-
Initial dose: 12.5mg once daily (for the first 2 days).
-
Maintenance dose: 25mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on the patient's response.

The maximum dose for hypertension is generally 50mg daily (divided into two doses).
For Heart Failure:
-
Initial dose: 3.125mg twice daily (for the first 2 weeks).

-
Hypersensitivity to Carvedilol or any of its components.
-
If there is a known allergy to Carvedilol or other beta-blockers, this medication should not be used.
-
-
Severe Bradycardia (heart rate <50 bpm).
-
Carvedilol can lower heart rate and may worsen bradycardia.
-
-
Heart Block (Second or Third Degree):
-
Carvedilol can exacerbate heart block, especially in patients with pre-existing conduction disorders.
-
-
Asthma or Severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):
-
As a non-selective beta-blocker, Carvedilol can cause bronchospasm, which may worsen asthma or COPD.
-
-
Severe Hepatic Impairment:
-
Carvedilol is contraindicated in patients with liver cirrhosis or other severe liver diseases, as it is metabolized in the liver.
-
-
Shock or Decompensated Heart Failure:
-
Carvedilol should not be used during episodes of acute heart failure or shock, as it can worsen these conditions.
-
-
Pregnancy (Category C):
-
Carvedilol should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is not considered safe for use during pregnancy.
-
-
Breastfeeding:

-
Diabetes Mellitus:
-
Carvedilol can mask the symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), such as rapid heartbeat and tremors. Diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar levels closely.
-
-
Hypotension:
-
Carvedilol can lower blood pressure, so blood pressure should be monitored regularly, especially at the beginning of treatment or when increasing doses.
-
-
Concomitant Use with Calcium Channel Blockers:
-
When used together with calcium channel blockers (e.g., verapamil, diltiazem), there is an increased risk of excessive lowering of blood pressure or bradycardia.
-
-
Thyroid Disorders:
-
Carvedilol can mask symptoms of thyroid disorders, such as tachycardia, which may delay the diagnosis and treatment of hyperthyroidism.
-
-
Surgical Procedures:
-
Inform your surgeon if you are taking Carvedilol, as it may need to be temporarily discontinued prior to surgery to avoid interference with anesthesia.
-
Summary:
