Cetirizine Dihydrochloride (Ceticit) 10mg Film Coated Tablet 100's

Product Description:

Ceticit 10mg Film Coated Tablets contain Cetirizine Dihydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine. This medication is used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic conditions such as hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and urticaria (hives).

  • Active Ingredient: Cetirizine Dihydrochloride 10mg per tablet.

  • Formulation: Film-coated tablet for easy swallowing.

  • Quantity: 100 tablets per pack, providing a convenient and cost-effective option for long-term treatment of allergy symptoms.

  • Usage: Oral use, typically taken once daily.

Cetirizine is a selective antagonist of the H1 histamine receptor, helping to reduce allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. It is non-sedating for most people, making it suitable for daytime use.

Indications:

Ceticit 10mg is primarily used for the treatment of the following conditions:

  1. Allergic Rhinitis (Hay Fever):

    • Relief from symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites, or animal dander.

  2. Allergic Conjunctivitis:

    • Red, itchy, and watery eyes due to allergies.

  3. Urticaria (Hives):

    • Treatment for itching, redness, and swelling of the skin caused by allergic reactions or other triggers.

  4. Other Allergy Symptoms:

    • It is also used to manage mild allergic reactions such as insect bites, mild rashes, and itching.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and children over 6 years:

    • 10mg (1 tablet) once daily, preferably taken in the evening.

  • Children 2 to 6 years:

    • 5mg (half a tablet) once daily. In some cases, a healthcare provider may recommend splitting the dose into two (morning and evening).

  • Elderly patients:

    • The recommended dose for elderly individuals with normal renal function is the same as for adults. For those with renal impairment, a reduced dose may be necessary, and adjustments should be made based on renal function.

  • Patients with severe renal impairment:

    • 5mg (half a tablet) once daily may be recommended. Consult with a healthcare provider for the appropriate dose.

Administration: Swallow tablets whole with water, with or without food.

Side Effects:

Common Side Effects:

  • Drowsiness or Fatigue – Although Cetirizine is considered non-sedating, some individuals may experience mild drowsiness.

  • Headache – A common side effect that usually resolves after a few days of treatment.

  • Dry Mouth – Some individuals may experience dryness in the mouth.

  • Nausea or Upset Stomach – Mild gastrointestinal discomfort may occur.

Less common but serious side effects:

  • Allergic Reactions – Symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, and difficulty breathing should be reported immediately.

  • Rapid Heartbeat – In rare cases, Cetirizine may cause palpitations or an unusually fast heartbeat.

If any of these side effects occur, contact a healthcare professional immediately.

Contraindications:

Ceticit 10mg should be avoided in the following conditions:

  1. Hypersensitivity:

    • Contraindicated in patients who are allergic to Cetirizine, Hydroxyzine, or any other ingredient in the formulation.

  2. Severe Renal Impairment:

    • Not recommended for individuals with severe renal impairment (e.g., creatinine clearance <10 mL/min). In these cases, dose adjustments should be made, or a different medication may be considered.

  3. Severe Liver Impairment:

    • Caution is advised in patients with severe liver dysfunction, and a lower dose may be required.

  4. Children under 2 years:

    • Not recommended for children younger than 2 years of age.

Precautions and Warnings:

  1. Elderly Patients:

    • Use with caution in elderly patients, particularly those with reduced renal function. Dose reduction may be required.

  2. Pregnancy and Lactation:

    • Pregnancy: Cetirizine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits justify the potential risks. It is classified as a Category B drug.

    • Breastfeeding: Cetirizine is excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should use it with caution, preferably under the advice of a healthcare provider.

  3. Driving and Operating Machinery:

    • Although Cetirizine is less sedating than first-generation antihistamines, it may still cause drowsiness in some people. If you experience drowsiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.

  4. Alcohol and Central Nervous System Depressants:

    • Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol while taking Cetirizine as it may increase the sedative effects. Also, avoid using other CNS depressants unless directed by a healthcare provider.

  5. Renal and Hepatic Conditions:

    • Renal Impairment: In patients with impaired renal function, the dose should be adjusted according to the severity of the condition.

    • Hepatic Impairment: Use cautiously in patients with liver disease.

Conclusion:

Ceticit 10mg Film Coated Tablets are an effective and convenient treatment for managing allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, and rashes caused by conditions like hay fever and hives. With a once-daily dosage, it provides long-lasting relief from symptoms, and is suitable for adults and children over 6 years of age. While generally well-tolerated, it is important to monitor for potential side effects and contraindications, particularly for those with kidney or liver conditions. Always consult with a healthcare provider if you have any pre-existing conditions or concerns about the medication.
