Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) 156.25mg per 5 ml Powder for Suspension 60ml
Product Description:
Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) is a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid in the form of a powder for oral suspension. It is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. The Amoxicillin component is a broad-spectrum penicillin-type antibiotic, while Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps prevent certain bacteria from inactivating the amoxicillin.
Each 5 ml of prepared suspension contains:
Amoxicillin 125mg
Clavulanic acid 31.25mg
The product comes as a 60ml bottle of powder that must be reconstituted with water to create an oral suspension. Once reconstituted, it provides a liquid formulation that is easier to administer, especially for children or patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets.

Liver Dysfunction:
Avoid use in patients with a history of severe liver disease or jaundice caused by previous use of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate.
Mononucleosis (Mono):
Caution should be exercised when prescribing Co Amoxiclav to individuals with mononucleosis, as they are more likely to develop a rash.
Renal Impairment:
Use with caution in patients with severe kidney dysfunction, as they may require dose adjustments.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
Pregnancy Category B: Co Amoxiclav is generally considered safe during pregnancy, but should only be used when necessary. Always consult with your healthcare provider before using this medication during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding: Small amounts of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid are excreted in breast milk. While considered safe, consult with your healthcare provider before taking Co Amoxiclav while breastfeeding.
Precautions:
Prolonged Use:
Prolonged use of Co Amoxiclav may lead to superinfections with organisms not susceptible to the medication.
Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea (CDAD):
Antibiotics, including Co Amoxiclav, may alter normal gut flora and lead to Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. Severe cases may require discontinuation of the antibiotic and appropriate treatment.
Allergic Reactions:
Use with caution in patients with a history of allergic reactions to antibiotics or other medications. Immediate medical attention is needed in case of any anaphylactic reactions.
Renal and Hepatic Monitoring:
Regular monitoring of renal and hepatic function may be necessary, especially in patients with pre-existing conditions affecting these organs.
Conclusion:
Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) is a widely used antibiotic for treating a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It is a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid, which enhances its effectiveness against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. While generally safe, it may cause side effects like gastrointestinal disturbances or allergic reactions, and should be avoided in patients with certain conditions like liver disease or severe hypersensitivity to penicillin. Always follow the prescribed dosage and consult a healthcare professional for any concerns regarding its use.
