Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) 312.5mg per 5 ml Powder for Suspension 60ml

Product Description:

Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) is a combination antibiotic consisting of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid. It is available as a powder for suspension. When mixed with water, it forms a liquid formulation that can be easily consumed, especially for pediatric patients or individuals who have difficulty swallowing tablets.

  • Each 5 ml of prepared suspension contains:

    • Amoxicillin 250mg

    • Clavulanic acid 62.5mg

The Amoxicillin component is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that works by killing bacteria. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from being broken down by certain bacterial enzymes, allowing it to work more effectively.

The product is typically used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in both children and adults.

    • Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)

    • Leukopenia (low white blood cell count)

  5. Central Nervous System:

    • Headache

    • Dizziness

    • Fatigue

  6. Superinfection:

    • Prolonged use of antibiotics can lead to the development of resistant organisms, including fungal infections.

Contraindications:

Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) is contraindicated in certain patients and situations. These include:

  1. Allergic Reactions:

    • Should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity (allergy) to penicillins, cephalosporins, or Clavulanic acid.

  2. Severe Hepatic Impairment:

    • Co Amoxiclav should not be given to individuals with mononucleosis (a viral infection), as they are at higher risk of developing a rash.

  4. Renal Impairment:

  5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

    • Pregnancy Category B: Generally considered safe during pregnancy, but always consult your doctor before using this medication.

Precautions:

  1. Prolonged Use:

    • Extended use of Co Amoxiclav may lead to the development of superinfections, including resistant bacterial infections or fungal infections.

  2. Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea (CDAD):

    • Antibiotics like Co Amoxiclav can cause an overgrowth of Clostridium difficile in the gut, leading to severe diarrhea. This condition can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.

  3. Liver Function Monitoring:

    • Liver function should be monitored in patients receiving prolonged therapy, as liver enzyme levels may rise in some individuals.

  4. Hematologic Monitoring:

    • Blood counts may be monitored in some patients, especially those receiving prolonged treatment, as eosinophilia and leukopenia have been reported in rare cases.

  5. Renal Dysfunction:

    • Adjustments to the dosage may be necessary in patients with kidney dysfunction, particularly in cases of severe renal impairment.

Conclusion:

Co Amoxiclav (Clovimed) 312.5mg per 5 ml is an effective combination antibiotic used for treating a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid, which work synergistically to fight infections. While generally safe, it can cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, allergic reactions, and liver enzyme changes. Care should be taken in individuals with a history of allergies, liver issues, or renal dysfunction. Always follow the prescribed dosage and consult a healthcare provider if you experience any side effects or have concerns about the medication.
