10mg Tablet 100's ANTIHISTAMINE

Loratadine (Allor 10) 10mg Tablet 100's

Product Description:

Loratadine (Allor 10) is a second-generation antihistamine used for the relief of allergy symptoms. It comes in tablet form, with each tablet containing 10mg of loratadine. The pack contains 100 tablets. Loratadine works by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose. It does not cause drowsiness or sedation like first-generation antihistamines, making it suitable for daily use.

Loratadine is rapidly absorbed and has a long duration of action, typically providing relief for up to 24 hours after a single dose.

Indications:

Loratadine (Allor 10) is primarily indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic conditions, including:

  1. Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis (Hay Fever):

    • Sneezing, itchy or runny nose, and watery eyes caused by seasonal allergens such as pollen.

  2. Perennial Allergic Rhinitis:

    • Allergic rhinitis symptoms that occur year-round, such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and watery eyes.

  3. Urticaria (Hives):

    • Itching, redness, and swelling caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria or other allergic reactions.

  4. Other Allergic Reactions:

    • Symptoms related to allergic conjunctivitis and allergic skin conditions.

Dosage and Administration:

For Adults and Children Over 12 Years Old:

  • 10mg once daily, preferably in the morning.

  • The tablet can be taken with or without food.

For Children Aged 6 to 12 Years:

  • 5mg once daily, either as a half tablet or a 5mg dose, depending on the child's condition and doctor's recommendations.

For Children Aged 2 to 6 Years:

  • Loratadine should not be used in children under 2 years unless advised by a healthcare professional.

Renal Impairment:

  • In patients with severe renal impairment, the dose may need to be reduced or adjusted.

Hepatic Impairment:

  • In patients with liver dysfunction, a dose adjustment may be necessary, as loratadine is metabolized in the liver.

Side Effects:

Although Loratadine (Allor 10) is generally well-tolerated, some side effects may occur. These include:

  1. Common Side Effects:

    • Headache

    • Dry mouth

    • Drowsiness (although rare with loratadine)

    • Fatigue

    • Gastrointestinal disturbances: Such as nausea, abdominal pain, and indigestion.

  2. Serious Side Effects:

    • Rapid or irregular heartbeats (palpitations).

    • Severe allergic reactions: Including swelling of the face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing (anaphylaxis).

    • Liver problems: Symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or pale stools.

  3. Other Effects:

    • In rare cases, loratadine may cause nervous system side effects like dizziness or trouble concentrating, though these are uncommon.

If any of these side effects are severe or persistent, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider immediately.

Contraindications:

Loratadine (Allor 10) should not be used in the following situations:

  1. Hypersensitivity:

    • If the patient is allergic to loratadine or any other ingredients in the tablet, they should avoid using this product.

  2. Severe Hepatic Impairment:

    • Loratadine should be used with caution or avoided in patients with severe liver dysfunction. A dose adjustment may be necessary if the medication is prescribed.

  3. Children Under 2 Years:

    • Loratadine is not recommended for use in children younger than 2 years old unless specifically instructed by a doctor.

  4. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

    • Pregnancy: While loratadine is classified as a pregnancy category B drug, meaning no harm to the fetus has been observed in animal studies, it should still be used during pregnancy only if necessary.

    • Breastfeeding: Loratadine is excreted in breast milk in small amounts, so caution is advised when administering to breastfeeding mothers. It should be used only if the potential benefit justifies the risk.

Precautions:

  1. Liver Disease:

    • Loratadine should be used with caution in individuals with liver disease, as the liver is responsible for metabolizing the drug. A reduced dose may be required for such individuals.

  2. Avoid Alcohol:

    • While loratadine generally does not cause drowsiness, consuming alcohol with the medication may increase the likelihood of side effects like drowsiness and dizziness.

  3. Overdose:

    • An overdose of loratadine may lead to symptoms such as drowsiness, tachycardia (increased heart rate), and headache. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

  4. Effect on Laboratory Tests:

    • Loratadine may interfere with certain lab tests, so it’s important to inform the healthcare provider that you are taking loratadine.

Drug Interactions:

  • Alcohol and CNS Depressants: Although loratadine is a second-generation antihistamine with a reduced risk of sedation, taking it with alcohol or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants can increase the risk of drowsiness and sedation.

  • Rifampin: This antibiotic can decrease the effectiveness of loratadine by increasing its metabolism.

  • Ketoconazole, Erythromycin: These medications can increase the concentration of loratadine in the bloodstream, potentially increasing the risk of side effects.

  • Cimetidine: Can also increase loratadine levels, although this interaction is less significant than with other medications.

Conclusion:

Loratadine (Allor 10) is a highly effective, non-sedating antihistamine that is commonly used to treat allergic conditions such as hay fever, urticaria (hives), and allergic rhinitis. With a long duration of action, it provides relief from allergy symptoms without the sedative effects associated with older antihistamines. However, as with all medications, it is essential to follow the prescribed dosage, be aware of potential side effects, and consult a healthcare provider if any concerns arise.
