Indication/Uses: 

1. Hypercholesterolemia:

   • Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol levels in the blood), including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
   • Treatment of mixed dyslipidemia (abnormal levels of cholesterol and triglycerides).

2. Cardiovascular Disease Prevention:

   • Used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, in patients with an increased risk due to multiple risk factors, such as age, smoking, hypertension, low HDL-C, or a family history of early coronary heart disease.

3. Hypertriglyceridemia:

   • Used in patients with elevated levels of triglycerides in the blood.

4. Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia:

   • For patients with this genetic disorder that results in severely high cholesterol levels.

5. Atherosclerosis:

   • Slow the progression of atherosclerosis (build-up of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery walls).

Uses:

Rosuvastatin is a member of the statin class of drugs, which are used to:

• Lower LDL Cholesterol (Low-Density Lipoprotein):

  • Commonly referred to as "bad" cholesterol, which can build up in the walls of your arteries and form plaques.

• Increase HDL Cholesterol (High-Density Lipoprotein):

  • Known as "good" cholesterol, which helps remove bad cholesterol from the bloodstream.

• Lower Triglycerides:

  • Another type of fat in the blood.

• Reduce Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke:

  • By managing cholesterol levels, rosuvastatin helps prevent cardiovascular events.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage:

  • The typical starting dose is 5-10 mg once daily. For patients requiring a large reduction in LDL-C (more than 45%), a starting dose of 20 mg may be considered.
  • The maintenance dose range is 5-40 mg once daily.
  • The 40 mg dose is only recommended for patients who do not achieve their LDL-C goal with a 20 mg dose.

• Administration:

  • Rosuvastatin is taken orally, with or without food, usually once daily.
